Yesterday marked my second week as a resident of New Orleans, some thoughts..

- A lot of people in the service industry completely bypassed blow and went straight to heroin/meth. Young, vibrant people, some with bachelors, a few with postgraduate degrees battle the horrid realities of many with harsh, life destroying drugs.
I have done blow before and Ive enjoyed it, but Ive never dissappeared for three days and showed up at my mums doorstep two towns away “not remembering anything.”
After a party filled with coworkers last night during which I was exposed to this sad reality, Michael and I had a heated debate about what makes a person cross “that line” with drugs and even if such line exists.

- One of my neighbors just played three lovely jazz songs that I couldnt identify and since I was writing this I didnt shazam either. Music really pours out of this city’s pores.

- Ive met a lot of honest people, so many young ones that are constantly being beaten down by rising debt and lowering income (which is also my situation.) Some are hopeful, some (like a fellow server I talked to last night) are on the verge of mental breakdowns. Its not pleasant to see someone cry after talking for less than two minutes. I commend her for being able to open up to me though, she thanked me for being the “nicest” person to talk to her since she started working at our restaurant, shes been there for three months, Ive only been working there for 5 days.
